Russian chief of staff shown visiting troops near front line in Ukraine

Valery Gerasimov, Russia's armed forces chief, visited troops in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, emphasizing preemptive strikes against Ukrainian forces.

He inspected a command centre, received briefings, and climbed into a helicopter, as shown in an accompanying video.

Gerasimov faced harsh criticism from Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and Russian military bloggers over Russia's war failures.

After Wagner's mutiny on June 24, doubts arose about Gerasimov's position, but he reappeared in public on July 10.

The recent statement and video aimed to affirm Gerasimov's active engagement with troops on the frontline.

Zaporizhzhia region witnessed intense fighting since Ukraine's counteroffensive in early June.

Gerasimov's visit demonstrates his continued role as armed forces chief despite previous uncertainties.

The importance of preemptive strikes against Ukrainian forces was emphasized during the inspection.
