Paul Reubens, Pee-wee Herman actor, dies after private cancer battle

Paul Reubens, who played Pee-wee Herman, died Sunday at 70 from cancer.

Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit,” his Instagram post stated.

Reubens apologized to his fans for keeping his health fight confidential in an attached statement.

“Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years,” he stated. I've always been loved and respected by my friends, followers, and supporters. I've liked you all and enjoyed making art for you.”

Is that difficult? Yeah. "That's pretty intense," Reubens told NBC in 2004. That's sad for a kid lover. You know, ironic is probably too mild.

He said, "The public may think I'm weird." "They may think I'm crazy or whatever." That's okay. As long as you don't believe I'm a pedophile. Because that’s false.”

In 2009, Reubens returned to late-night interviews as Pee-wee Herman. Pee-wee's Big Holiday, another Netflix feature, was released in 2016.

Before his death, Reubens was working on two Pee-wee Herman projects.
