Former Saudi Pro League Top Scorer Says Cristiano Ronaldo Moved to Al Nassr "For Money" Rather Than "Passion"

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia for the big money, not the idea. Odion Ighalo, who played in the Saudi Pro League last season, agrees.

After a damaging Piers Morgan interview, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January. The 38-year-old is the highest-paid soccer player in the world at his new club, earning almost $200 million per year.

Ronaldo has regularly stated his confidence that the Saudi Pro League will become one of the world's greatest since joining Al Nassr.

Ighalo doubts Ronaldo joined Al Nassr to transform Saudi soccer. Ighalo, 34, thinks Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia for money, too.

"When you are young, yes, you play for passion," Ighalo told OmaSportsTV while displaying his lavish home. Money didn't matter then. At my age, I'm in the final stretch of my career, and I don't know if it will be one, two, or when God tells me to stop.

"It won't take more than three years. I've always played for passion, now for money. I don't play for passion. Money, bro. Money matters.

"Is Ronaldo still playing with passion? Ronaldo went to Saudi Arabia despite earning 100 times my lifetime income. Is that his passion? "Money, bro." Ighalo scored five goals in 22 games for Manchester United on loan from January 2020 to January 2021.

In February 2021, the Nigerian joined Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia. He joined Al-Hilal in January 2022. Ighalo won the Saudi Pro League's Golden Boot with 24 goals in 2021/22. Al-Hilal released him last month.
