After shocking World Cup loss, USWSM head coach Vlatko Andonovski resigns.
On Wednesday, the Associated Press reported that US Women's Soccer Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski resigned after the team's shock World Cup loss on Aug. 6.
U.S. Soccer told Yahoo Sports that his four-year contract expired at the end of the year, but his actions against Sweden likely accelerated his departure.
U.S. women's team eliminated earliest ever this year.
Kristie Mewis, Alyssa Thompson, and Sofia Huerta were criticized for not getting enough playing time under Andronovski.
After the match, Andronovski dodged queries regarding his future with the squad.
“I think it’s selfish to think about me, my future, what I’m gonna do, when we have 20-year-old players going through this,” he said.
He played for the Wichita Wings, Kansas City Comets, California Cougars, and Philadelphia Kixx after moving to the U.S.
I never could have guessed how soccer would shape and transform my life forever, but by this little girl's face, she knew.”
