The Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse announces a $100 million settlement for sexual abuse victims in its bankruptcy proceedings.

Victims who experienced childhood and adult sexual abuse are eligible to seek compensation through the settlement.

An abuse claims reviewer will evaluate claims and allocate awards to survivors as part of the process.

Bishop Douglas Lucia expresses remorse and acknowledges the pain endured by survivors in an open letter.

The settlement's approval is subject to a creditor vote and court approval.

The diocese would contribute $50 million, parishes $45 million, and other diocesan entities $5 million to the settlement.

Child protection protocols are under discussion to strengthen safeguard measures.

The settlement excludes six insurance companies that provided coverage to the diocese.
